Phoenix andamanensis

Phoenix andamanensis palm tree of medium size typical of the Phoenix

quite attractive, will tolerate both drought and cold.

has been recorded from a locality in both North Andaman and Little Andaman,

and the Cinque and Rutland islands . The modern distribution of the species is unknown.

Highest ground (c. 450 – 700 m) in the islands.

A recent report noted that the species is found in a ‘scrub jungle’

undisturbed on the east side of Rutland Island and the northern tip of North Cinque Island.
