Agave gypsicola

Agave gypsicola This wonderful medium-sized solitary agave

was described as a new species in 2019.

It is found only in a small place west of Oaxaca, Mexico,

where it grows along the Rio Verde between 1300 Y 1600 m in dry scrub on gypsisol soils.

It is related to the Agave guiengola and forms a rosette

moderately dense up to 40 very wide leaves,

ovoid to nearly round, pale bluish in color with small

reddish brown teeth on the margins that give it a very attractive appearance.

The tall inflorescence is unbranched.

Although it is common locally, is considered endangered due

to its very limited distribution and human activities.

In culture it is one of the most coveted agaves and adapts easily

to a variety of conditions in tropical hot and dry temperate climates.
